2025, performance, silicone, white moss.

I have to remove my skin,
the one that was given to me,
to reach the fur beneath.
There is no one to ask.
I am not there to touch or to feel.
I am now —
and I cannot remember what was long forgotten.
I will not give up.
Because the pain holds me together.

The performance UNSKINNED captures the contact between
white moss from the Arctic Komi homeland and the human
body through liquid silicone. Body and moss function as two
material forms of what remains of “home”: physical natural
matter and muscular memory. From this contact, a skin-like
imprint emerges. Once the silicone–moss layer has hardened on the skin, it is
slowly peeled off and placed onto the sculptural object.

A Komi creation myth tells of the god Oemel, who punishes the
bear by turning its skin inside out. From this inverted skin, the
first human is created.
